Big change is coming to the way we educate our students in the Sunshine State. Despite massive spending, students are lagging behind their peers in other developed nations. Some say we are paying too much and getting too little. Others say we’re not paying enough. Systemic change is on the horizon. Governor-elect Rick Scott is bringing back talk of a voucher-type system to pay for private schools and teacher performance pay. Perhaps year-round schooling or a longer day are options for success? Lee Co. Schools Superintendent Larry Tihen, Collier Co. Schools Superintendent Dennis Thompson, classroom teacher Sara Kohlhauff and News-Press Community Conversations Editor David Plazas will discuss these issues and take your calls.
This show will re-air on Saturday, Jan. 29@ 5:30 pm; and Sunday, Jan.30 @ 1 pm.
