WGCU’s Your Voice will kick off with a community forum co-sponsored by the News Press on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Alliance for the Arts in Ft. Myers. The forum will focus on “What are our Teachers Worth? Unraveling Performance Pay.” Plazas and Valarie Edwards, host of WGCU’s Gulf Coast Live radio program will moderate a panel discussion with Dr. Dennis Thompson, superintendent, Collier County schools; Dr. Larry Tihen, interim superintendent, Lee County Public Schools; Rep. Gary Aubuchon, R-Cape Coral, chairman, House Rules and Calendar Committee; Donna Mutzenard, executive director, Island Coast Florida Education Association and Dr. Virginia Harper, reading teacher, South Fort Myers High School. During the following week of Jan. 24-28, WGCU will air seven hours of live, call-in radio and television programming focused on public education in Southwest Florida. Your Voice combines television and radio programs along with an interactive website to give viewers and listeners the opportunity to listen, watch and participate.
