The Chrysalis Chamber Players is a new chamber ensemble formed to help educate young artists.  They provide instruction to beginners as well as young artists seeking to become professionals and encourage through the power of live performance.   We’ll learn about their new residency at Pine Ridge Middle School.

Dr. Temple Grandin / Tarpon Genetic Recapture Study

Animal science professor, best-selling author and autism advocate Dr. Temple Grandin comes to Southwest Florida later this week for the Promising Pathways National Autism Conference at Florida Gulf Coast University.  Dr. Grandin’s insights into animal behavior have revolutionized the livestock industry and she was among Time Magazine’s top 100 most influential people in 2010.  We’ll talk with Dr. Grandin about her work, living with autism, and the future of autism treatment.

Plus Tarpon fishing has been ‘luring’ people from all over the world to Southwest Florida for more than a century.  Despite the popularity of the big game fish and its economic impact on the region, much about the species range and seasonal movement remains a mystery.  We’ll highlight the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute’s ongoing Tarpon Genetic Recapture Study which brings together anglers and biologists to learn more about the species.

Florida Gulf Coast University’s Theatre Lab performs “Faustus Burns Brightly” - written, directed and designed by Professor Barry Cavin, incorporating Christopher Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus". Art and life blend in this play based upon true events.



Then Edison State College performs “Savage/Love” common poems of real and imagined moments in the spell of love. Originally written through improvisation and now created by the cast through experimentation during movement rehearsals.

Impact of Rising Gas Prices / Tourism Outlook

Gas Prices at some Southwest Florida service stations are exceeding four dollars a gallon and as international tensions persist, experts predict say fuel prices will continue to rise.  We’ll talk with economic and travel experts about what’s behind the rising fuel costs, and how paying more at the pump is impacting consumer behavior and businesses. 

Plus, the upcoming Easter holiday typically marks an exodus of seasonal residents and a slow-down in tourism. We’ll check in with area tourism officials for a debrief.

A new cutting edge art space is now open in downtown Fort Myers called Unit A. The New York style urban loft space will house selected works from the Marcus Jansen collection on a permanent basis and serve as a hub for information regarding the artist and his career. Jansen expert, art columnist and curator Veron Ennis is its director.  We’ll hear from both of them.
